Why book a family photographer who lives in Venice?
I know the route with a stroller
I live here, so I know which bridges a stroller can take and which to avoid, and when St Mark’s Square is still quiet enough for a family: between 7:30 and 8:00. The route is built on that.
You know the price before you write
€350 for one hour, €450 for 90 minutes. Fixed price, fixed number of edited photos, no “starting from” surprises. The full list is further down this page.
Nothing to lose
You pay online to hold your date and it is 100% refundable up to 24 hours before the session. There is no deposit to lose, because there is no deposit.
What if my kids won’t cooperate?
That part is my job, not yours. With small children everything depends on connection: I make them laugh, I ask them about their favourite cartoon character, I get them playing with you. A child playing with their parents is the photograph. A child told to smile is not.
And with small children the timing is simple: if I win them over in the first few minutes, the rest of the session is easy.
Teenagers need the opposite. They need room to express themselves, so I give it to them — and I photograph each of them on their own as well, not only the shots with their parents.

How does a family photoshoot in Venice work, step by step?
- You tell me the basics. Your dates, how many of you there are, how old the children are, and where you are staying.
- I propose a time and a route. Early morning if your family can manage it — that is when Venice is empty and we can photograph almost anywhere.
- You pay to hold the date. 100% upfront, by card, PayPal or bank transfer. Fully refundable up to 24 hours before the session.
- We shoot. One hour, 90 minutes or two hours, at your pace.
- You get the photos. 3 preview photos within 48 hours, and the full edited gallery in 5 working days — details and the Carnival exception under the prices below.
Where do we take family photos in Venice?
Almost every family asks for St Mark’s Square, and there is nothing wrong with that — it is the picture people come to Venice for. For St Mark’s Square with a family, we start between 7:30 and 8:00: that is the slot when the square is still empty.
But it is not the only answer. Some families with small children would rather not cross half the city: they prefer to stay near their hotel. If that is you, tell me where you are staying and I build the route around it.

What time of day works best with children?
Early morning. Before the day visitors arrive, the city is empty and we can photograph almost anywhere — including the places that are impossible a few hours later. For St Mark’s Square with a family, that means starting between 7:30 and 8:00.
The afternoon works too, but I plan it differently: I keep away from the most crowded spots. You get cleaner photographs and better light.
How long should a family session be?
90 minutes is what I recommend for families. One hour works and plenty of families choose it, but with children the first few minutes go into warming up — and 90 minutes leaves room for that plus individual portraits of each child.
How much does a family photoshoot in Venice cost, and what do I get?
All photos individually edited, delivered in a private online gallery.
| Family session | 1 hour | 90 min (recommended) | 2 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | €350 | €450 | €650 |
| Edited photos | 40 | 60 | 80 |
When you get them. 3 preview photos within 48 hours, and the full edited gallery in 5 working days — Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are not counted. From May to September, when many sessions overlap, allow a few extra days. During Carnival there are no previews and the gallery takes 7 working days — it is the busiest time of the year and I would rather give you a date I can keep. Need everything faster? Express delivery of the entire gallery in 24 hours: +€150.
How long the gallery stays online. 3 months for the one-hour and 90-minute sessions, 6 months for the two-hour session. Download everything as soon as it arrives.
How you pay. 100% upfront, by card, PayPal or bank transfer, and the date is yours from that moment. There is no deposit — the whole amount is refundable up to 24 hours before the session.
What is different about a family session. Same prices as a couple session, but the 90 minutes are used differently: time for the children to warm up, and individual portraits of each of them alongside the family shots.

Can we add a gondola?
Up to three of you, yes. With four or more, I do not recommend it: the photos come out cramped.
If we add it, it comes at the end of the session, because the gondolas start at 9 am. So a one-hour session starts at 8:30 am, a 90-minute session at 8:00 am and a two-hour session at 7:30 am — the gondola sets the start time, not me.
The gondola fare is set by the city and is not included in my price: you’ll pay €90 in cash directly to the gondolier (30 minutes, 9 am to 7 pm; €110 after 7 pm). Rates as of August 2026 — they can change.
If you want the details first, here is what to expect from a gondola photoshoot.
Is Venice manageable with a stroller?
Yes, if the route is planned for it. In Venice you cannot avoid bridges altogether, but with a stroller I keep away from the bridges over the Grand Canal — they are the highest, with the most steps, and the most tiring — and I plan the walk on small bridges only, so it is not stressful. I also try to avoid the areas that get too much sun, where walking is more tiring.
And if you would rather not cross the city, tell me where you are staying: I start the route from there.
We’re a family of six — does that work?
Yes — and families much bigger than six. For a large family I recommend open spaces with several different backdrops a few steps apart — and St Mark’s Square in the early morning is one of the best: lots of backgrounds, and room even for a very large family.
The largest family I have photographed was 15 people across four generations: grandparents, parents, children and the children’s children. With a group like that, I start with photos of everyone together in the wide spaces, then I take portraits of each sub-family on its own — the grandparents, the parents, the children, the children with their own children. That way everyone goes home with pictures of their own family as well as of the whole family.
For a family that size I recommend at least 90 minutes, and often the full two hours — the €450 or the €650 session in the table above.

What should we wear?
One rule, and it is the one I give every family: pick four or five colours that sit well together, let one of them pop — a mustard, a red — and never dress everyone the same. Coordinated, not identical. It works for six people exactly as it works for two.
The full guide — heels on the bridges, long dresses, where you can change, what changes between July and November — is here: what to wear for a Venice photoshoot.

Who takes the photos?
I’m Osvaldo Di Pietrantonio, a professional photographer living in Venice and photographing here since 2013. I photograph couples, proposals and families who choose Venice as their destination.
It is me behind the camera — and me who replies to your message.
What do families say afterwards?

“This was the happiest photography shoot we have experienced (and we’ve had multiple)! Osvaldo’s wonderful personality made everyone in the family feel at ease. He coached us with positive feedback and created amazing images for our little family. We absolutely love the photos, and have happy memories of that day.”

Which family session do I still think about?
A family with two small children — already walking, but still in the stroller. Because of the children, they did not want an early start, so instead of heading for an icon like St Mark’s Square we started with a walk near San Giacomo dall’Orio, a very local part of Santa Croce.
We stopped along the small canals and on the little bridges, with the morning light still low. Between one spot and the next the children rode in the stroller, and at every stop they could run around: we were always somewhere with railings along the canal, so the parents could let them run. Everything was relaxed and quiet. And because the children were calm — and their parents could relax — there was time for several photos of the parents on their own, as a couple.
Then they asked me how far it was to St Mark’s. I explained that it was a long way off, and that by then it was too late in the day. So we went to a corner of Santa Croce near the Frari basilica instead, and they loved the photos we took there.
There is none of the grand architecture of St Mark’s Square in those pictures. They have lovely memories of that day all the same, and they were very happy.
Any quick questions before you write?
Is this Venice, Italy?
Yes — Venice, Italy: the city built on water, with the canals and the gondolas. Not Venice, Florida, and not Venice Beach, California. I live here and I photograph here.
How do we secure our date?
You pay 100% upfront by card, PayPal or bank transfer and your date is confirmed straight away. It is fully refundable up to 24 hours before the session.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain can be beautiful on camera. In case of heavy rain or exceptional high tide, we pause for a coffee or reschedule, depending on availability.
How quickly will we get the photos?
3 preview photos within 48 hours, and the full edited gallery in 5 working days (Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are not counted). From May to September, when many sessions overlap, allow a few extra days; during Carnival there are no previews and the gallery takes 7 working days. Express delivery of the whole gallery in 24 hours is available as an extra: +€150. The online gallery stays open for 3 months (6 months for the two-hour session).
Where can I see the full price list?
Family sessions are €350 for one hour (40 edited photos), €450 for 90 minutes (60 photos) and €650 for two hours (80 photos), as listed above. Couple, solo and proposal sessions are on the Venice photoshoot packages and prices page.
How do we book?
Send me your dates, how many of you there are and the children’s ages. I reply personally with availability, a route and your quote. You pay to hold the date — and you can get all of it back up to 24 hours before.
